3 Reasons to Choose Porto for Business Travel

03.18.2019

In Porto and Northern Portugal, you will find the ideal settings for your business trip. The Wine, River, History and great venues, combined with a professional service, will transform your corporate event into a memorable moment.

Wine: Wine Lovers we welcome you!

Porto is widely known for its wine. The Douro valley, in the outskirts of the city, is a wine demarcated region, recognized internationally and classified as world heritage by UNESCO. From its terraced vineyards, to the wine estates located by the river in this region, Douro valley is a paradise for wine lovers that want to get involved in the process of traditional wine making.
The wine would be transported in traditional “Rabelo” boats through the river, and it would arrive to the city cellars. In Porto, it is possible to visit some of these Port wine cellars, discovering more about the blends, doing tastings and exploring places filled with history in cellars that date back to the early 19th century.
Team building tip: It is possible to have a unique experience of learning about wine blends and producing your own – this is a very fun team building activity, in which your team will create their own wine blend, that they can then take home!
If you are visiting Porto around September, you and your team could get involved in wine harvesting (Vindimas), a traditional and festive team activity that teaches a lot about cooperation, teamwork and communication: an unforgettable authentic experience.

River: getting to know Porto from another perspective

The Douro river is part of the magic around the city. Its light, the bridges and the riverbanks are some of the most iconic parts of Porto. Besides walking the riverbanks and enjoying some of its beautiful cafes while listening to the sounds of the boats, people passing by and looking to the other margin where the wine caves are, the river is an excellent opportunity to discover the city from another perspective!
Team building tip: Go on a private cruise with your team, in which you will have the opportunity of discovering Douro river and how the landscape is different in the regions around the city. Also, this is a great opportunity to relax and have a pleasant moment with your team.

History: explore Porto streets and traditions

From its narrow valleys, the monuments and the gardens, Porto has a lot to explore. With history around each corner, it is almost impossible not to see historical buildings anywhere you go. Clérigos Tower is one of the places you shouldn’t miss, because on the top you will get a panoramic view of the city from above. Also, Monastery de São Francisco is a must, with its beautiful azulejos (tiles) on the outside and mesmerizing wood carvings in the inside. Don’t forget to step by Lello bookshop, a historical book store and one of the oldest in Portugal, where allegedly J.K. Rowling inspired herself for Harry Potter – you will understand why – it is magic!
Team building tip: Go on a peddy-paper with your team through the streets of Porto, in which you will love to explore Porto on your own and discover the history of the city at the same time.
